The Industry

In 1904, Henry Ford crossed the Detroit River and established The Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd. Since then, the Windsor-Essex County area has never looked back.

The "Just-In-Time" philosophy fits us perfectly. Lakeshore and Windsor-Essex are within a day's drive of a full 90 percent of all the vehicle assembly plants in North America.

In Lakeshore, some of the largest Tier One suppliers to the automotive industry are represented. Magna, Quality Safety Systems, Leggat and Platt, Schukra and Flex-n-Gate have come to enjoy the unparalleled access to their primary markets.

But it's not just all about the automobile! Lakeshore also boasts an ever diversified industrial base. For instance, world-wide on-line printing juggernaut VistaPrint supplies all of North America from its Lakeshore operations. Can-Art Aluminium provides custom aluminium extrusions around the globe to a mostly "non-automotive" customer base while two of the world's leaders in gelatin capsule technology, Technophar and Caps Canada, service the pharmaceutical industry from their Lakeshore facilities. Rounding out Lakeshore's capable manufacturing sector are companies such as Northstar Aerospace, On-Freight Logistics, and Concours Mold.

Lakeshore is no "one trick pony"! At just over 530 square kilometres, Lakeshore is reputed to have, arguably, the best arable land anywhere. Add a temperate climate and a long growing season and it is easy to understand why our agricultural sector continues to thrive. Opportunities abound in the area of food processing.

Regionally, our food and beverage ventures are legendary, from the likes of Seagram's, Heinz and the Hiram Walker distillery (supplier of the famous Canadian Club Whisky.....all of which matures in warehouses in Lakeshore).....to our expanding agricultural and greenhouse industries and our burgeoning wine making enterprises. In Lakeshore, Wagner Estates represents the area's only maker of fruit wines.

Lakeshore is part of Canada's most lively and promising industrial and business area.
