High winds and snow drifting contribute to deteriorating road conditions
The Municipality of Lakeshore has declared a Significant Weather Event. Residents are advised to avoid all non-essential travel.
Sustained high winds have contributed to the drifting of snow and the ongoing deterioration of local road conditions. High winds are forecasted to continue throughout the night.
The declaration of a Significant Weather Event is defined in Ontario Regulation 239/02.
Throughout the declared period, Lakeshore will continue to make every effort to maintain roads. However, ongoing wind and drifting snow have created additional challenges.
“Plowing operations will take longer and are needed more often to keep roads clear,” said Krystal Kalbol, Lakeshore’s Corporate Leader - Operations. “At this point, we’re asking motorists to stay off the roads if possible. If travel is necessary, use extreme caution.”
When the Significant Weather Event has ended, a notice will be distributed to local media and via Lakeshore’s website and social media accounts.
