Back to School Safety Starts with YOU

The back-to-school season has arrived, and the Municipality of Lakeshore is reminding residents to prioritize safety to and from school this year. Parents/guardians are encouraged to talk to their children about tips to stay safe when going back to school.

"For many students in Lakeshore, it's time to head back to school, and now more than ever, it is so important to exercise caution when travelling to and from school," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. "We are asking all residents to please reduce their speed, keep a safe distance behind school buses, and be alert around school zones by following the directions of our hardworking crossing guards. Let's work together to have a safe and successful school season."

Here are some back-to-school safety tips to follow:

  • Create a safe route to school or the bus stop, and encourage children to follow it.
  • Ensure children always wear a properly fitted helmet when riding a bike or scooter to school.
  • Remind children to always walk on the sidewalk or away from roadways.
  • Follow directions from crossing guards and make eye contact with drivers before crossing.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings and avoid using devices while walking.
