2024 Back-to-School Safety Reminder
With students heading back to school, the Municipality of Lakeshore is reminding everyone that community safety is a shared responsibility.
“It’s the start of a new chapter for many local students across Lakeshore, and it’s more important than ever for residents to exercise extra caution during this time,” said Mayor Tracey Bailey. “We are asking everyone to please be mindful when driving near school zones and school buses, follow the instructions of our crossing guards, and talk to your families about back-to-school safety so we continue to keep everyone safe.”
Drivers should:
- Always stop and never pass a school bus when its red lights are flashing, regardless of whether you are behind or approaching the bus
- Reduce your speed and always keep a safe distance behind school buses.
- Always stop for pedestrians at crosswalks/school crossings and obey crossing guards.
Pedestrians should:
- Follow directions from crossing guards and make eye contact with drivers of approaching vehicles before crossing.
-
Pay attention to your surroundings and do not use devices while walking along roadways
