2026 Fire Prevention Week is Coming Up in Lakeshore

The Lakeshore Fire Department invites residents to celebrate Fire Prevention Week (FPW) from October 4 to 10, 2026, and attend Fire Station Open Houses at all five local stations throughout Lakeshore on Thursday, October 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

These open houses offer residents an opportunity to learn practical fire-prevention tips, meet local firefighters, and explore fire trucks and emergency equipment.

This year's FPW campaign, "Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower," helps residents understand how to safely use and charge lithium-ion battery-powered devices at home. The campaign emphasizes simple everyday actions, including using approved chargers, charging devices on hard, flat surfaces, and looking out for warning signs such as overheating, swelling, smoke, or unusual odours.

"Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we rely on every day, which makes safe charging practices more important than ever," said Lakeshore Fire Chief Jason Suchiu. "Fire Prevention Week is a great opportunity for residents to learn easy steps that can help reduce fire risks at home. We look forward to welcoming families into our stations and sharing this important information with our communities."

"Fire Prevention Week is an important reminder that everyone has a role in keeping their home and family safe," said Mayor Tracey Bailey. "I encourage residents of all ages to visit one of our local fire stations, connect with our firefighters, and learn practical ways to prevent fires before they start."

During the week, Lakeshore firefighters will also visit eleven local elementary schools to teach students about fire safety, the importance of working smoke alarms, safe charging habits, and what to do in an emergency.

Follow Lakeshore's social media accounts throughout the week for fire prevention resources, activities, and additional safety information.
