Accessible Kayak and Canoe Launch Unveiled in Lakeshore

On August 21, 2025, Council and community members gathered at Lakeview Park – West Beach in Belle River for the official unveiling of a new accessible kayak and canoe launch.
The installation of the launch was approved by Council in 2024 and completed earlier this summer. Since opening, the launch has been popular with paddlers from across the region.
“This launch is more than just an infrastructure project, it’s an investment in inclusion and accessibility,” said Mayor Tracey Bailey. “It ensures that residents and visitors, regardless of ability, can enjoy our incredible waterfront and explore the natural beauty of the Belle River.”
The new launch is a floating dock with two platforms designed to support users of all abilities in safely accessing canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards. The system is part of the EZ Dock brand. It includes the floating dock, EZ Launch One Way, EZ Launch Residential, as well as a transfer slide with bench and grab rail.
"This project is a shining example of how we find success by working together and listening to the expertise of our residents,” added Mayor Bailey as she recognized the long-time advocacy of Belle River resident and paddler John Enright.
Launch users and park visitors are encouraged to share their feedback on how Lakeshore can improve amenities like the accessible canoe and kayak launch.
“Whether it’s sharing ideas for new amenities, reporting problems, or telling us what’s working well, your input guides our decisions,” said Frank Jeney, Corporate Leader – Community Health and Safety. “Every comment, suggestion, or observation provides insight into how these places are used and how we can improve.”
Paddlers are also reminded to follow marine safety guidelines and carry the required safety equipment while on the water. For more information on safe boating, visit Transport Canada’s Boating Safety page.
