Council Meeting Summary: September 8, 2026
The following is a brief recap of the main issues and matters that Council dealt with at the meeting held on September 8, 2026. A video recording of the meeting will also be posted at Lakeshore.ca/TV.
These highlights are not official minutes of the meeting and are meant solely for the purpose of general communications. The approved minutes provide the only official record of Council proceedings and decisions.
Council:
- Held a public meeting regarding Section 358, Municipal Act tax adjustments and authorized tax reductions totalling $986.80 for adjustments affecting the 2025 taxation year.
- Received a presentation regarding the launch of Development Services Dashboards.
- Received the following reports for information:
- Directed Administration to submit a formal comment on the Environmental Registry of Ontario on behalf of the Municipality of Lakeshore regarding the proposed Economic and Strategic Assessment Framework for New Data Centres, as presented at the September 8, 2026 Council meeting, with the following additions:
- Change the word “should” to “must”;
- Request that the provincial and federal governments include regulations to protect digital sovereignty;
- Request that water limitations be introduced;
- Request that closed-loop water systems be a minimum requirement;
- Request that specific energy rates be codified in law;
- Request that provincial minimum standards be developed to guide municipal by-laws;
- Ensure municipalities have oversight, including a requirement for a supporting resolution;
- Request meaningful consultation with conservation authorities; and
- Request further public consultation as the regulations are developed.
- Approved the dissolution of the Union Water Supply System Joint Board of Management.
- Adopted the following by-laws:
- By-law 53-2026, Being a By-law to Approve the Dissolution of the Union Water Supply System Joint Board of Management
- By-law 56-2026, Being a By-law to Amend By-law 106-2024 (Site Plan Control By-law)
- By-law 57-2026, Being a By-law to Confirm the Proceedings of the August 11, 2026 Council Meeting
