Lakeshore Horizons Project Launches Community Information Sessions on Future Growth

Shared on behalf of Lakeshore Horizons, a joint project between the Municipality of Lakeshore and Centre for Cities.
The Centre for Cities (C4C) at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Law, and the Municipality of Lakeshore are pleased to announce the launch of Horizons, a collaboration focused on shaping the future of growth in Lakeshore. As part of this initiative, three public engagement sessions will be held to share information about the project, leading to additional hands-on community workshops at a later date where gathering community input will ensure that future development aligns with local values.
With Lakeshore experiencing significant population growth, over 10% between 2016 and 2021, Horizons aims to address the opportunities and challenges that come with rapid expansion, including housing supply and affordability, infrastructure investments, and environmental sustainability.
“This is the start of a transformative project, the development of a new vision for the future of Lakeshore’s communities that prioritizes thoughtful, long-term planning, sustainability, and meaningful resident engagement. This approach will ensure that our communities, from Lighthouse Cove to Woodslee, Comber to Puce, reflect their unique identities and visions. This project will also happen alongside our significant infrastructure work, particularly in our water and wastewater systems, so we can maximize the value of those investments for the benefit of taxpayers,” said Mayor Tracey Bailey.
“Horizons is about engaging the community directly in conversations around social, economic, and environmental priorities, while ensuring that growth reflects what Lakeshore residents value most,” Anneke Smit, C4C Director.
The sessions will feature interactive discussions and explore key themes including:
- Supporting vibrant, walkable neighbourhoods
- Balancing economic development with environmental stewardship
- Protecting farmland and natural spaces
Lakeshore is the fastest-growing municipality in the region. Decisions made today will impact Lakeshore for generations. Through these upcoming events, residents will learn more about the challenges communities face when experiencing periods of growth. These include financing municipal services and infrastructure, sustainability, and improving quality of life for residents. Participants will gain a better understanding of how Lakeshore is preparing to address these challenges.
All sessions will be held at the Atlas Tube Rec Centre in the Renaud Room (447 Renaud Line Rd, Belle River, ON)
The sessions are open to the public.
