Lakeshore Launches Online By-law Complaint Portal
Municipality reminding property owners about tall grass and yard maintenance
Spring has sprung and the Municipality of Lakeshore is reminding residents and property owners to keep their grass cut and yards clear of weeds and debris.
This year, Lakeshore launched a new online by-law complaint portal to make it easier for residents to send and track their by-law requests. Available from a home computer or mobile device, complaints can be submitted online at Lakeshore.ca/BylawComplaint. When submitting a complaint, residents should provide as much detail as possible, including the location of the concern and a clear description of the issue. Accurate information helps staff review and investigate complaints more efficiently.
“Spring is a busy time for residents and for municipal services, and this new online complaint portal is another way we are making it easier for people to connect with Lakeshore when they need assistance. As part of Council’s Strategic Objectives, we’ve prioritized the use of technology to improve how we serve residents. This tool adds convenience, supports better customer service, and helps ensure by-law concerns can be submitted quickly and efficiently."
-Mayor Tracey Bailey
Under Lakeshore’s Yard Maintenance By-law 54-2018, grass and weeds must be trimmed and not exceed 20 cm (8 inches) in height. Keeping properties clean and well maintained contributes to neighbourhood appearance, community pride, and public health and safety.
“Seasonal growth is a natural part of life in Lakeshore, but property maintenance remains important. In response to complaints, we focus on compliance first. Where a violation is observed, we issue an order which gives property owners an opportunity to address concerns before further enforcement is considered.”
-Bill Tetler, Manager of By-law Compliance.
Failure to comply with an order may result in administrative and reinspection fees. Lakeshore may also complete the required work on behalf of the property owner, the cost of which is added to the property tax roll.
