Lakeshore Offices to Close for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, 2026

In recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Municipality of Lakeshore offices will be closed on Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The Atlas Tube Recreation Centre will remain open during its regular operating hours.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity for our community to honour survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the lasting impacts of the residential school system. We encourage residents and staff to take time to learn, listen and consider how each of us can contribute to meaningful reconciliation.

In recognition of the day, Lakeshore staff are invited to wear orange shirts on Tuesday, September 29, and Wednesday, September 30.

Local Events:

The Town of Amherstburg will host a Truth and Reconciliation Gathering on Saturday, September 26, from noon to 4 p.m., at King’s Navy Yard Park, 252 Dalhousie Street, Amherstburg.
The Town of Tecumseh will host an Orange Shirt Day Memorial Walk on Tuesday, September 29, at Lakewood Park South, 13451 Riverside Drive East, Tecumseh. A keynote presentation begins at 10 a.m., followed by the walk at 10:30 a.m.
Chimczuk Museum and Art Windsor-Essex will offer free admission on Wednesday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 401 Riverside Drive West, Windsor.
Caldwell First Nation will host an Orange Shirt Day gathering on Wednesday, September 30, beginning at 10 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at the Caldwell First Nation Community Hall, 14 Orange Street, Leamington, by 9:30 a.m. Contact cultural.dev@caldwellfirstnation.ca for more information.
The University of Windsor will host an Every Child Matters Walk and Flag Raising on Wednesday, September 30, beginning at 9:15 a.m. at River Commons and the Chrysler Hall Tower Courtyard. The University will also host an Orange Heart Photo at 1 p.m. at the west entrance of the Ron W. Ianni Faculty of Law.
The Town of Kingsville will host its annual Orange Shirt Walk on Wednesday, September 30, beginning at noon at the Kingsville Arena.
