Lakeshore Reminding Park Users About Noise
As summer wraps up, Lakeshore is reminding park visitors to be respectful of others and follow the municipality’s noise by-law while enjoying local parks, beaches, waterfront areas, and green spaces.
The reminder is being issued as Lakeshore’s parks continue to see high levels of park use during the summer months, particularly at popular destinations such as Lakeview and Optimist Parks in Belle River.
Visitors are asked to keep noise to a reasonable level and avoid disruptive activities such as loud music, shouting, amplified sound, or other excessive noise that may affect nearby residents and other park users.
Lakeshore’s Noise By-law is intended to help ensure community spaces remain safe, peaceful, and enjoyable for everyone. Park visitors are encouraged to be considerate of surrounding neighbourhoods and fellow visitors, especially during early morning and evening hours.
“Respect for others is an important part of keeping our parks and outdoor amenities welcoming for everyone,” said Vanessa Stratton, Lakeshore’s Executive Director of Community Services. "Lakeshore’s parks are extremely popular destinations and we want everyone to be able to enjoy them. Part of that means being mindful of your own noise levels and consider how they may impact others.”
Municipal By-law Officers will continue to conduct regular patrols of local parks throughout the summer. Park visitors and nearby residents are encouraged to report noise and other by-law complaints online using Lakeshore’s new By-law Complaint Portal at Lakeshore.ca/BylawComplaint. For noise complaints outside of regular business hours, parks users and residents are asked to contact the Ontario Provincial Police non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122 or online at OPP.ca.
Staff will also be on the look out for other activities prohibited by Lakeshore’s Parks By-law, Open Burning by-law, and provincial legislation:
- Smoking, including cigarettes, pipes, and hookahs.
- The use of motorized vehicles, including electric bikes and scooters.
- Lighting of fires, including barbeques.
- Littering and not cleaning up after pets.
