Lakeshore Storm Event Response Update (September 2026)

The Municipality of Lakeshore and surrounding region experienced a significant storm event, including heavy rain, high winds, and suspected tornadoes, on Thursday, September 3 and into September 4, 2026.

Lakeshore staff continue to assess damage from the storm and monitor local infrastructure systems. Stormwater pumps are running effectively to meet current demand. Lakeshore has not received any reports of basement or property flooding.

All of Lakeshore's baseball diamonds are closed, and tonight's Parks Concert Series event featuring Jon Brett at Lakeview Park has been cancelled.

What Residents Should Do

• If a resident experienced flooding, please contact Lakeshore's Public Service Unit for follow up by staff. 
• Avoid downed limbs and hanging tree branches at local parks, trails, and facilities.
• Report problems and concerns through Lakeshore’s Public Service Unit by phone at 519-728-2700 or online Lakeshore.ca/ReportAProblem.
• Call 911 for issues that are an immediate threat to health and safety.
• Learn about powerline and utility safety from ELK Energy and Hydro One.

Tree Branch Collection

For residents throughout Lakeshore, downed tree limbs and branches must continue to meet yard waste collection requirements. The next yard waste collection dates are Saturday, September 5 for Area 1, and Saturday, September 12 for Areas 2 and 3.

Trees must be cut in 4-foot lengths with a maximum diameter of 2 feet, bundled securely, and should not exceed 45 pounds (20 kg). Yard waste should be put in acceptable containers (paper yard waste bags, cardboard boxes, or garbage cans), and soil should be removed from the roots.

The Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority is also offering a ‘grace period’ for residents using double-axle trailers to drop off branches from the recent storm. Residents dropping off yard waste and branches will not be charged a fee until September 30, 2026. Commercial customers will continue to be charged during this period.
