Notice of Commencement: Lakeshore County Road 22 Sewer Expansion

The Study

The Municipality of Lakeshore (Lakeshore) is undertaking a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) for pumping stations along the County Road 22 Trunk Sewer. The need for the County Road 22 Trunk Sewer was identified in Lakeshore’s 2024 Water and Wastewater Master Plan, and the Municipality is moving forward with the implementation of the trunk sewer. This study will determine:

  • Where new pump stations are required to meet future servicing requirements along the new County Road 22 Trunk Sewer route;
  • Identify existing pump stations that require increased capacity to meet servicing requirements; and
  • Identify pump station configurations.

Study Process

The study will be carried out as a Schedule B MCEA. The study will complete Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Engineers Association’s (MEA’s) Municipal Class MCEA Process (MEA 2024), which is an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. Following the completion of the study, the results of the study will be documented in a Project File Report.

Opportunities for Participation

Consultation with interested parties, including the public, is an important part of the MCEA study process to identify areas of interest. One Public Information Centre (PIC) is planned throughout the study process to connect with the project team, learn about the study, and facilitate feedback from interested parties.
Upon completion of the study, a Draft Project File Report will be prepared and available for public review for a minimum of 30 days.

The County Road 22 Sewer Expansion Project is being supported by investments from the Government of Canada (Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund) and the Government of Ontario (Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund). The project is estimated to cost $92 million, including design and construction.
