Snow Safety Reminder from Lakeshore Fire

The snow is here, and Lakeshore Fire is reminding residents to stay safe both inside and outside their homes.

  • Wind and drifting snow can block vents and cause dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) buildup. Clear snow from outdoor vents around your home, and ensure your CO alarms are working and meet the new provincial requirements.
  • Be extra cautious when driving, give other vehicles lots of space, and slow down so you can stop well in advance.
  • If you’re able, shovel snow away from fire hydrants in your neighbourhood so crews can access them quickly.
  • Keep house numbers, walkways, and driveways clear for emergency access.
  • Keep space heaters at least 1 meter (3 feet) from combustible materials and never leave them unattended.

Help keep you, your family, and our communities safe this winter.
