Snow Safety Reminder with Winter Weather on the Way
With snow and ice in the forecast over the weekend, Lakeshore is asking residents to help keep local roads safe for service vehicles and other drivers.
To do your part, residents are asked to:
- Move vehicles off roads whenever possible during and after snowfall, particularly on cul-de-sacs and near curb extensions. Parked cars can block the way for snow plows, which slows down snow clearing operations. Vehicles should stay off the street until clearing is complete, which may take 24 to 36 hours to complete after snowfall ends.
- Move items, such as basketball nets and garbage/recycle bins, a safe distance (2 metres) away from the road.
- Adjust driving to road conditions and maintain a safe driving distance from snow plows and service vehicles.
- Refrain from shovelling snow onto roads.
- Use caution when using local sidewalks and parking lots, which may be icy.
Based on the weekend forecast, salting and plowing are expected to take place throughout Lakeshore. Snow clearing operations will first take place on priority routes. Secondary roads, such as those within subdivisions, will be cleared as quickly as possible after priority routes.
