Update on July 5, 2026, Rainfall and Flooding

Additional garbage collection on July 14 for residents in affected area

The Municipality of Lakeshore and surrounding areas experienced a significant rainfall event on Sunday, July 5, 2026. The heaviest rainfall was concentrated in the northwest part of Lakeshore.

Lakeshore received numerous calls and emails about the impact of the rainfall, including basement and roadway flooding. Residents who experienced flooding are encouraged to contact Lakeshore at 519-728-2700. Staff will continue to follow up with impacted residents.

To help cleanup efforts, Lakeshore is providing extra waste collection of flood debris on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 (starting at 6:00 AM), for residents in the affected area.

The collection area includes properties from Manning Road at Amy Croft Drive, south to County Road 22; East on County Road 22 to the Puce roundabout; North of County Road 22, including Albert Lane to the lake; and lakefront properties west of the Puce River (see key map below).

Residents are asked to:

  • Place flood debris in hard sided containers or garbage bags to ensure safe collection and handling.

  • Bags must be tied at the top and not stacked on containers.

  • Bags and containers must weigh less than 45 pounds (20 kilograms).

  • Remove sharp objects, batteries, and other hazardous waste.

“We appreciate the cooperation of residents as our staff continue to support community cleanup efforts and assess the impacts of this significant rainfall event,” said Krystal Kalbol, Executive Director, Infrastructure Services.

For residents throughout Lakeshore, downed tree limbs and branches must continue to meet yard waste collection requirements. Trees must be cut in 4-foot lengths with a maximum diameter of 2 feet, bundled securely, and should not exceed 45 pounds (20 kg). Yard waste should be put in acceptable containers (paper yard waste bags, cardboard boxes, or garbage cans), and soil should be removed from the roots.

The Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority is also offering a ‘grace period’ for residents using double-axle trailers to drop off branches from the recent storm. Residents dropping off yard waste and branches will not be charged a fee until the end of the day on Saturday, August 1, 2026, or until otherwise instructed. Commercial customers will continue to be charged during this period.
