Integrity Commissioner

Principles Integrity was appointed as the Integrity Commissioner for the Municipality of Lakeshore effective July 1, 2022. Principles Integrity is a partnership formed in 2017 to focus on the provision of Integrity Commissioner and municipal governance services through its two principals, Jeffrey A. Abrams and Janice Atwood.  Each of its principals have enjoyed a career focused on local government, and have experience at the local, single-tier, regional and provincial government levels, and are active members of the Municipal Integrity Commissioners Association of Ontario. Principles Integrity represents approximately 50 municipalities and other public bodies across the province.  

The role of the Integrity Commissioner is to investigate complaints relating to the Code of Conduct for elected official and/or members of local boards. If the Integrity Commissioner determines that there was a contravention of the Code of Conduct, the Integrity Commissioner may recommend a reprimand or suspension of the remuneration of the member for a period of up to 90 days. 

The Integrity Commissioner also provides advice to members of Council respecting the Code of Conduct and provides education/training to Council and staff.
