Temporary Patio Applications

Temporary patio permits allow eligible businesses to operate outdoor seating areas on a seasonal basis. The program supports local businesses while helping activate main streets and commercial areas across Lakeshore.

Permits are available for up to 8 months and may apply to patios on private property and, where permitted, on municipal lands.

The permit fee is $260.00.

Permit Details

Eligible applicants include:

  • Restaurants
  • Cafés
  • Bars
  • Other food and beverage establishments

Applicants must also:

  • Comply with applicable zoning and property regulations
  • Have property owner authorization, if operating as a tenant

Temporary patios may be permitted in the following locations, subject to review and approval:

  • Private property, including existing commercial lots
  • Sidewalks
  • Parking spaces or curb lanes
  • Other municipal lands

Applications must be submitted through Cloud Permit.

Required documents include:

  • Completed application form
  • Site plan showing:
    • Patio location and dimensions
    • Tables, chairs, and barriers
    • Distance from the sidewalk, road, and building
  • Proof of insurance
  • Property owner consent, if applicable

Processing time: Applications may take a minimum of 2 to 3 weeks for review.

Approved patios must:

  • Maintain a safe, accessible, barrier-free pedestrian path
  • Allow clear access for emergency and fire services
  • Provide separation from traffic where required
  • Be stable, safe, and well maintained
  • Not include permanent structures unless specifically approved

If alcohol will be served on the patio:

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Typical approval time is 15 to 20 business days, depending on the completeness of the application and whether revisions are required.

Staff may contact applicants for additional information before a permit is issued.

  • Permits are valid for up to 8 months
  • Patios must be removed at the end of the approved season
  • A new application is required each year

Permit holders must:

  • Keep the patio clean, safe, and in good condition
  • Operate only within the approved layout
  • Maintain valid insurance for the full permit period
  • Comply with all applicable municipal by-laws, including noise and property standards

Applying for a temporary patio permit is simple:

  1. Complete the application through Cloud Permit
  2. Upload all required documents, including your site plan and proof of insurance
  3. Submit your application for review
