Household Chemical Waste
Household Chemical Waste materials are harmful to humans, animals and the environment, as well as begin the leading cause of water pollution in North America. They should never be flushed down the toilet, poured down the sink or deposited in a storm drain. Storm drains are not treated or filtered. Everything that goes into a storm drain flows into local creeks and lakes. Prevent this by using the Hazardous Chemical Waste Depot. These items can be dropped off free of charge for residential customers only. Residential customers are restricted to two (2) twenty (20) litre pails of household chemical waste per trip. Common Hazourdous Chemical Waste items include:
• Oil and oil filters
• Glues/ Adhesives
• Batteries (all types)
• Propane tanks and cylinders
• Car care products
• Gasoline
• Fluorescent lights
• Paints, varnishes and stains
• Pesticides
• Pool Chemicals
Electronic Waste
Electronic waste (e-waste) is the fastest growing source of waste in North America. As faster, smaller and more powerful computer equipment, phones, televisions, stereos, and small home appliances are introduced, current models quickly become obsolete. Unfortunately, these electronics are filling up landfills fast.
Lead, cadmium and mercury are found in most electronic equipment, making them a hazardous risk to human health and the environment if they are not disposed of properly.
Anything with cord can be recycled FREE at the Public Drop off depot.
