About the Program
Lakeshore has launched the Residential Rat Abatement Pilot Program, which provides property owners a rebate of up to 50% of the cost of extermination services (maximum of $200 rebate).
The program is funded for the balance of 2025, or until the funding allocation of $10,000 is exhausted, whichever comes first.
Only one rebate up to 50% of $400 per property will be accepted in the 2025 calendar year.
Please note, only residential properties (properties zoned as residential), are eligible for the program.
How to Apply
- Complete the Residential Rat Abatement Program Intake Form, identifying the location of rat sightings on the property and suspected origin of the rat(s).
- Once your complaint is received, a Bylaw Enforcement Officer will contact you to schedule a property inspection. The inspection ensures your property complies with municipal bylaws related to yard maintenance and property standards, which are often linked to rodent activity. If any bylaw violations are found—such as debris accumulation, overgrown vegetation, or improper waste storage—they must be corrected before you can proceed with the rebate program.
- During the visit, the Officer may also provide additional recommendations to reduce rodent attraction—like removing bird feeders, bird baths, or vegetable gardens. While these suggestions aren't mandatory, failure to implement them could affect your eligibility.
- A follow-up inspection may be required to confirm all corrective actions and recommendations have been completed. Once the Officer determines your property meets program criteria, you may move on to the application stage.
- After the Officer verifies by-law compliance and confirms that all necessary steps have been taken, the Municipality will provide an approval notice along with a contractor verification checklist. You may then hire a licensed pest control provider of your choice. After the service is complete, you must submit the signed contractor form along with a valid proof of payment (receipt or invoice) to Bylaw@Lakeshore.ca. This ensures that the work was carried out properly and qualifies under the rebate guidelines.
- Upon verification of all submitted documents, you will receive a rebate for 50% of the total cost of the extermination service, up to a maximum of $200 per property. Rebates will be mailed a cheque.
- Only one submissions per calendar year will be approved.
