Charged for Change Project

The Municipality of Lakeshore is pleased to have been awarded “Charged for Change” funding through Aviva Canada in partnership with Earth Day Canada.

Two new Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations will be installed in the community:

  • One at the Atlas Tube Recreation Centre (447 Renaud Line Rd, Belle River, ON)
  • One at Lakeview Park (Lake St, Belle River, ON)

What is this project about?

Charged for Change is an initiative to bring chargers to municipalities that currently lack EV infrastructure. Through the $3M partnership over three years, municipalities can apply for funding to receive Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations. The program delivered Level 2 charging stations to seven Ontario municipalities in its inaugural year of 2023. The program opened to submissions from across Canada this year.

“The Municipality of Lakeshore extends appreciation to Aviva Canada and Earth Day Canada’s Charged for Change program for the funding to create two publicly accessible Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations in Lakeshore. This funding directly supports Lakeshore Strategic Objective of Modernizing and Enhancing Municipal Function,” said Mayor Tracey Bailey. “We are thrilled about the vehicle charging opportunities for residents and visitors in our community, helping make Lakeshore a more sustainable place to live, work, and play.”

“We know that access to charging infrastructure is key for Canadians considering transitioning to EVs. We are proud to partner with Earth Day Canada to bring electric vehicle charging stations to these communities through our Charged for Change initiative. And believe that programs like this can help more Canadians across the country make the switch to a low-carbon economy,” says Paul Fletcher, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Aviva Canada.

“Globally, we are seeing the consequences of climate change and the need to address its effects is now. One of the many ways we can reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions is to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. With the support of Aviva Canada through the Charged for Change program, we were able to make a difference by bringing charging opportunities in communities where they were lacking and help Canadians access infrastructure and take charge for a sustainable future.” said Valérie Mallamo, Earth Day Canada Executive Director.
