The Municipality of Lakeshore contracts with the Ontario Provincial Police for police protection within the community.

The Essex County OPP Detachment – North  is a joint detachment board between the three communities of the Town of Essex, Town of Tecumseh, and Municipality of Lakeshore.

On April 1, 2024, the Community Safety and Policing Act2019 (CSPA, 2019) in Ontario replaced the Police Services Act, 1990. As a result, the Essex Police Services Board was dissolved, and the board for the Essex County OPP Detachment – North established.
