Emergency & Evacuation Preparation
Emergencies and disasters can happen any time. Utilities can be out, roads closed, and crucial supplies unavailable. You can be prepared at home and at work for the unexpected.
If you are ever in an emergency situation, don't panic. Your house will take hours to cool off completely and you can survive three days without water and three weeks without food.
It is recommended you prepare a 3 day, or 72 hour, Survival Kit. Everyone in your family should know where these items are stored.
What's in a 72 Hour Evacuation Survival Kit?
- Flashlight and batteries (in case lights go out)
- Radio and batteries or crank radio (to listen to news bulletins)
- Spare batteries
- First-aid kit
- Candles and matches / lighter
- Extra car keys and cash (including coins/cards for telephone)
- Important papers (identification for everyone, personal documents such as insurance papers)
- Food and bottled water
- Clothing and footwear (one change of clothes per person)
- Blankets or sleeping bags (one per person)
- Toilet paper and other personal supplies (shampoo, hairbrush, tooth brush, toothpaste, soap, towel and face cloth - one per person)
- Medication
- Backpack/duffel bag (to carry survival kit in case you have to evacuate)
- Whistle (to attract attention if needed)
- Playing cards, games
