May 5 to 11 is Emergency Preparedness Week, an annual event dedicated to ensuring you and your family are prepared for emergencies. In Ontario, this year’s theme is “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.”
“Knowing local risks is the first step toward being prepared in any emergency,” said Lakeshore Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Pulleyblank. “By understanding risks, you can prepare to take action to protect yourself and your family for the worst-case scenario.”
Similar to past years, the Lakeshore Fire Department will focus on educating citizens and ensuring they can take safety and preparedness into their own hands. Lakeshore will share emergency preparedness tips as well as resources and educational material through social media and online at: Lakeshore.ca/Prepare.
To help get prepared, you can:
- Make an emergency kit with critical supplies to last up to 72 hours (about 3 days).
- Make and review an emergency plan with members of your household.
- Research local risks and emergency preparedness tips from local organizations and other levels of government:
