Lakeshore Fire Department invites residents to attend the Fire Prevention Week Open Houses at all five local fire stations from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
These Open Houses will give attendees the chance to learn fire prevention, meet local firefighters, and check out firetrucks and equipment.
This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme, which runs from October 8-14, 2023, is “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention,” and it will highlight cooking safety tips, the importance of special meeting spots, and teaching kids who to call when an emergency happens.
“Fire Prevention Week serves as an important reminder that fire safety starts in the home,” said Lakeshore Fire Chief Don Williamson. “We are excited to welcome residents to our open houses. There will be an opportunity for the community to engage with our dedicated firefighters, learn essential fire prevention techniques, and reinforce the message that fire safety is a shared responsibility.”
During the week, firefighters will also visit all ten Lakeshore grade schools to teach students about fire safety and what to do in an emergency.
Stay tuned to Lakeshore’s social media accounts throughout the week for links to fire prevention resources, activities, and more.
